iPad No Search Box or Screen Refresh

Many iPad and iPhone applications are searchable and they usually provide a "Search" textbox or icon to indicate this.  Good examples of these are e-mail and the App Store. But there are some applications whose "Search" capabilities are not apparent. I recently purchased "MiniKeePass" to store my online account information and the main screen looks like this:


At first glance there is no indication that you can search your accounts. But if I simply "swipe" my finger in a downwards motion a "Search" box appears:


Similar technique can be used for applications like Twitter if you want to "Refresh" the feeds on the screen:
